How Man Utd could ruin Chelsea’s Ousmane Dembele transfer plan with Frenkie de Jong deal

Barcelona are set to agree a £68million deal that would see star midfielder Frenkie de Jong leave for the Premier League as Manchester United’s persistence appears to have paid off. And that could have a major impact on a transfer from Chelsea.

Ben Jacobs tweeted: “Chelsea in an interesting position because if they move too soon it gives Barcelona time to counter and there is still caution in the club they will be used to secure a better offer for Dembele at the Barca.”

What is clear at this stage is that the £68m generated by the sale of Barca’s No.21 could be used in part to meet Dembele’s demands for a new contract, meaning United could ruin Chelsea’s hopes of signing Dembele by handing Barcelona the money they need to ease their financial woes. After all, Xavi is desperate to keep him as he’s ‘called’ him several times to convince him, according to The Daily Mirror.

Dembele’s stay wouldn’t be the biggest disaster in the world for West Londoners. They have also been credited with interests in Arsenal and Tottenham target Raphinha and Richarlison respectively, but they would have to act quickly if they wanted to either. That’s why the winger’s contract saga that will conclude next week will give owner Todd Boehly and Tuchel peace of mind anyway.
